Lights, Camera, Bloom!

The Pennsylvania Convention Center once again is hosting the world's oldest and largest indoor flower show. In its 187th year, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Philadelphia Flower Show opens on February 28 and goes through March 8, 2015. In celebration of the silver screen, this year's theme is "Celebrate the Movies" with displays, special events and more. It is "Lights, Camera, Bloom!" when the world's great floral and garden designers take inspiration form the world's great cinema. Over 10 acres of the Convention Center is transformed into a fantasy of beautiful plant and cutting-edge designs. In addition to the major garden displays, the Flower Show hosts competitions in horticulture and artistic floral arranging, gardening presentations and demonstrations, special events, and a mammoth indoor Marketplace. Tickets can be purchased online. Show hours are: Feb 28 11:00am-9:00pm; March 1 8:00am-9:00pm; March 2-6 10:00am-9:00pm; March 7 8:00am-9:00pm; and March 8 8:00am-6:00pm.

The dazzling excitement of a Hollywood movie premiere - the red carpet will lead visitors through an Art Deco theatre facade with a 29-foot-high marquee of flowers and more than 200 lights in blazing neon colors. The Entrance Garden will showcase the fantastic interiors of 1920s movie palaces, with towering juniper and palm trees and grand chandeliers dripping with blossoms, moss, jewels and fabrics.The star-studded rose garden will have blooms in honor of silver-screen legends including Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Fonda and Barbra Streisand. Guests will also be able to view the winning entries in the Flower Show short-film competition entitled "What is Beauty?" on the 36-foot-wide, high definition screen in the garden. 

New in 2015 is an early morning tour led by national renowned photographers. Learn tips and techniques along with a private tour of the best areas of the show to photograph. The annual favorite "Garden Tea at the Flower Show" offers a light and delicious menu along with fine teas to enhance your Flower Show experience. A separate ticket is required. There are a number of evening events such as Wedding Wednesday on March 4 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Brides-to-be and their bridesmaids are invited for an evening of VIP pre-wedding treatment. Tickets can be purchased online where you'll also find a listing of other evening events. A separate ticket is required for evening events.
