Chainsaw Carver’s Rendezvous in Ridgway, PA
Famous for a landscape of dense hardwood forests that once covered almost 100% of the state, Pennsylvania has long nurtured a relationship between wood and the rest of the world. Historically, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans and developed alongside civilization into the modern age of industrial machinery, rapid transportation (giving access to different types of wood), and rechargeable tools that made us able to mass-produce wood products. But still today there remains demand for traditional hand-crafted and artisanal woodwork such as furniture and decorative art pieces—and there’s no better place to celebrate that art than the place that has the most of it.
From April 26-28, carvers form around the world gather in the beautiful town of Ridgway, Pennsylvania for the Chainsaw Carver’s Rendezvous to transform hardwood logs into life-sized works of art, totem poles, and abstract pieces from bears to birds to the absolutely bizarre.
Carving live, wood carvers from everywhere in the globe (some recognized as world champions!) craft their elegant hardwood creations with saws and hand tools. Chainsaw carving seminars, how-to demonstrations, as well as craft vendors, specialty shops, restaurants, and souvenir stores all make the Chainsaw Carver’s Rendezvous a can’t-miss public art show. Interact with the skilled artists, purchase finished pieces directly, or bid on quick carve pieces. Cast your vote for Best of Show and Social Media Choice this year for the first awards show.
