Adams Apples

The rocky, nitrate-rich soil in the fertile valley of Adams County, Pennsylvania, combined with prime altitude, rainfall, and temperature make Adams County one of the most intense and significant fruit-growing regions in the United States. While all 67 Pennsylvania counties grow apples, Adams is the largest producer, a feat that has earned it the moniker “Apple Capital USA.” Discover its many apple orchards and nurseries on orchard tours, wine and cider tastings,

During the first two weekends of October, Apple Capital USA celebrates its bountiful harvest and beautiful fall foliage with the 53rd annual National Apple Harvest Festival in Biglerville, just a few miles from historic Gettysburg. Hundreds of craft vendors, music, food, art, and more make this seasonal celebration a can’t-miss Pennsylvania event at the South Mountain Fairgrounds. Enjoy the contest and coronation of the Pennsylvania Apple Queen as well as some of our favorite things about fall like candied apples, apple syrup, hay rides, and kettle corn. Other attractions and activities include Appalachian Art’s chainsaw wood carvings and pottery, Native American dancers, pie baking contests, auctions, and tours of Adams County.
