From National Attractions to Country Roads
Some of the nation’s most visited historic sites are located here—think Independence National Historic Park, Liberty Bell Center, National Constitution Center, The Franklin Institute, and the U.S. Mint. Beautiful Amish farms and villages make Lancaster and York Counties popular, but there is much, much more. The region has nationally-recognized scenic drives as well as scenic rail trails for walkers and bicyclists. The three most walkable cities in Pennsylvania are located here: West Chester, Lancaster, and Philadelphia. World-famous Longwood Gardens is located in Kennett Square. And you wouldn’t want to miss nearby Chanticleer Gardens, Tyler Arboretum, Hershey Gardens, or Bartram’s Garden National Historical Landmark, either.
Hershey Park and the Hershey Museum on Chocolate Avenue are top destinations for families. For children, there are Crayola Factory, Dutch Wonderland Family Amusement Park, and Sesame Place—among many other attractions.
For the shopper, what's not to like? Philadelphia’s Franklin Mills, for example, houses over 1.5 million square feet of retail and even has hotels on-site to lodge bargain shoppers. After a scenic drive on the Exton Bypass, take the QVC Studio Tour. Or visit the Philadelphia Premium Outlets in Limerick, PA, or the Tanger Outlets at Lancaster. For farmer’s market shoppers, more than 50 of them call southeastern Pennsylvania home, including the 114-year-old Reading Terminal Market at 12th and Arch in Philadelphia and the famous Lancaster Central Market.
For railroad fans, Strasburg Railroad and the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania are located across the street from one another--both just a short distance from the National Toy Train Museum.
Southeastern Pennsylvania offers so much to do—and when your day is over, the area also offers more bed & breakfast, inn, and farm-stay accommodations than anywhere else in the state. Innkeepers are ready to help you “keep it local” while you relax and discover the area.
The region is an affordable destination only three hours or less from Washinton D.C., Baltimore, Wilmington, most of New Jersey, Scranton, State College, and so many other cities and towns.
