February in Philadelphia: Visit The National Constitution Center

Spend February in Philadelphia at the National Constitution Center, where America’s most treasured document is celebrated, shared, and discussed with all kinds of people. It is here that the coastal colonies of North America finally changed the course of history, making the daring decision to take their ruling into their own hands. Nicknamed the Museum of We the People, Headquarters for Civic Education, and America’s Town Hall, the National Constitution Center is an enigma for the tenants of freedom and justice, truth and ethics. There’s plenty to do here, too, with its hundreds of interactive exhibits, media displays, and valuable documents.

The featured exhibit this February is one of the twelve surviving copies of the Bill of Rights, making the National Constitution Center the first museum in the state of Pennsylvania to display the historic document to the public. The featured exhibit is called Constituting Liberty: From the Declaration to the Bill of Rights and it also displays a copy of the Constitution’s first printing. Find the exhibit in the new George H.W. Bush Gallery through December 2017 and visit the website for more information.

February is also African American History Month and the National Constitution Center celebrates with The Story of We the People, an exhibit honoring African American leaders, heritage, and history. Take a self-guided tour through the museum highlighting pivotal moments in African-American history. You will also find rare, signed copies of the Thirteenth Amendment, Emancipation Proclamation, and the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama. For more information on African American History Month at the National Constitution Center, visit the museum’s website to plan your visit.

The Winter Warm Up Sale gives you a great opportunity to take a trip to Philadelphia this February for an enriching experience of American history. With a $4.50 discount on admissions, adult tickets cost only $10 through March 31st. To purchase the Winter Warm Up tickets online, go to http://constitutioncenter.org/calendar/winter-warm-up-sale-2017. The tickets allow guests to experience the main exhibit, view the live production of Freedom Rising, and explore the executive branch in the Powers of the President exhibit.

Also in February is the special, one-day event John Adams and the Fear of Aristocracy, which details the original concept of the demographic we have nicknamed “the 1%.” John Adams originally called these people “the few.” Find out why he feared America turning into an oligarchy, or start with finding out what an oligarchy is on February 1st at 12PM. Tickets are $8.
