Ski Season: Experience Blue Knob Mountain

Until a 1920s geological survey proved otherwise, the massive mountain dome of Blue Knob was thought to be the highest point in Pennsylvania. Today, the mountaintop still holds the title as the highest skiable peak in the state and its ski slopes, snowmobile routes, and eighteen miles of hiking trails summon people from all over the Mid-Atlantic. With an annual snowfall of twelve feet, this ski mountain paradise won’t disappoint anyone interested in winter sports.

For an easy and relaxing winter hike, head to Chappell’s Field Trail, a 2.5 mile loop on level ground. You can also find easy hiking on the downhill Crist Ridge Trail and the wide, gentle trail called Homestead famous for its birdwatching. Expect to see white-tailed deer, turkey, red-tailed hawks, and even porcupines.

Ski season opens for the winter on Saturday, 12/17, 9AM-5PM. All tickets are $45. With its epic thirty-four trails and a vertical drop of over a thousand feet, Blue Knob offers some of the best skiing in Pennsylvania. Visit the website for hours, tickets, and a map of all thirty-four ski trails. Their website also offers anytime season passes for a discounted $195, making these a great gift in time for Christmas.

Get in touch with your goofball side on the snowtubing slopes. Open weekdays 5PM-10PM for $20 and weekends and holidays 12PM-10PM for $25 (tickets are for two hours), snowtubing is one way the winter season can make you laugh.
