Mountain Bike Dirt Fest at Raystown Lake

Get down and dirty in the Raystown Lake Region of the Alleghenies this spring for one of the best weekends of the year. From May 18-20, 2018 the recently opened Allegrippis Trails at Raystown Lake, named the best cross-country bike trail in North America, become filled with mountain bikers from the seasoned athlete to the brand-new, biking beginner. But even though the location offers some of the best mountain biking found, well, anywhere, Dirt Fest is all about the fun. It’s a chance to let loose, to get dirty, and to gather a community of passionate mountain bikers for a few days in Pennsylvania’s Allegheny Mountains. Thirty-six miles of trails, cutting-edge bicycle technology, vendor expo, good friends, and great beer all make Dirt Fest a wild and crazy mountain bike festival.

Machine built by the International Mountain Biking Association and opened in 2009, the Allegrippis Trails offer some of the best mountain biking in the world. Expect big climbs and descents and that far-away feel you can only find in these Pennsylvania forests. Follow our quick trail guide below to get the scoop on some of Dirt Fest’s trails in Raystown Lake.

The Raystown South Loop, an 8.5 mile counterclockwise loop on the south side of Seven Points Road, is one of the black-diamond trails in the system. Enjoy the up-and-down inclines and declines through lush jungle-like forests. From the South Loop, continue on to Stony Trail, an intermediate rocky ride that will take you to the north side of the Raystown trail system. Here, find parking lots for easy access to both sides of the trail system. Go for a casual cruise on one of the easy trails or crush all 20 miles on the north side. Deer Trails and Hydro Loop feature some of the best trails in the system. You’ll ride right down to lake level so take a moment or two to take in the view of the water.

Other than the biking trails, attend an informational workshop (we recommend the Unicycle Demos by Butler Wobble), relax in a session of yoga or while watching a movie, or enjoy yourself with your closest friends while sipping on some craft brews. Learn a new skill on the instructional group ride, The Do’s and Don’ts of Trailside First Aid, or visit the lounge to take a course on foraging. Don’t miss out on Stargazing at the Seven Points Amphitheater Saturday night!
