Explore Pennsylvania's Hidden Caverns

There’s no doubt Pennsylvania has one of those signature landscapes, instantly recognizable with its wide rivers, endless forests, and rolling hills, valleys, and mountain ridges covered in greenery. But it’s beneath the ground that you’ll find some of our state’s most interesting geography. And just when you thought delving into Pennsylvania’s underground caverns was a unique enough experience, you’ll have to do this one by boat.

At Penn’s Cave, glide through the all-water limestone cavern entirely by boat on a fully-guided cave tour. As the only cave in Pennsylvania on the National Register of Historic Places, Penn’s Cave features glittering stalactites and stalagmites that have evolved into familiar shapes like the Statue of Liberty. On your boat tour, admire how dripping water has sculpted magnificent formations of stone. Boat tours of the cavern take between 45 and 50 minutes. Visit Penn's Cave website for the schedule and rates.

Afterwards, enjoy the beautiful farm to enjoy nature and wildlife as well as an off-road mountain tour, gemstone panning, and more fun for the whole family.

On the farm-nature-wildlife tour, enjoy a 90-minute guided tour by bus through the 1,600 acres of grazing pastures and mountain trails. You’ll catch sight of native North American animals such as wolves, bison, Texas Longhorn cattle, foxes, bears, elk, whitetail deer, bighorn sheep, and the mountain lion, Penn’s Cave Icon. Walk through the butterfly garden to see monarchs, eastern tiger swallowtails, and viceroys, and learn something new about the biology, geology, and geography in the center of our state. Visit the Penn's Cave nature tour website for more information on the nature tour at Penn’s Cave.

Before leaving, stop by the Visitors Center for the Penn’s Cave Gift Shop to shop unique gifts including rocks, crystals, and gemstone specimens, clothing, stuffed animals, books, locally-sourced honey and maple syrup, and more. The Cave Cafe is also located inside the Visitors Center and makes the perfect stop before, between, or after your tours. Order farm-raised bison and Texas longhorn burgers, hot dogs, nachos, bottled and fountain drinks, ice cream, and fudge. Seating includes indoor and outdoor areas at the Front Plaza or Miners Maze Patio.
