Pittsburgh Celebrates 125 Years of Phipps Conservatory
Amidst metal and machinery in unimaginable quantities, Phipps Conservatory has served as Steel City’s green oasis for more than a century. It connects Pittsburghers to the beauty and importance of nature while also researching, educating, and innovating within the fields of ecology, botany, and sustainability. Besides its impressive and stunning architecture, Phipps Conservatory is holding some exciting and fascinating events and exhibits this spring.
Experience the natural beauty of the Caribbean with the Tropical Forest Cuba exhibit. The colorful, fragrant collection displays the diverse ecology that makes up one of the most botanically rich rainforests in the world. The journey takes you through exotic Cuban plant species like the stunning Cuban orchids, ferns, and rare cycads. Cascading waterfalls, bubbling streams, and a scenic overlook with a panoramic view all make this one of Phipps’s best exhibits. Visit the website for more information.
Opening March 10th, the Spring Flower Show: Scents of Wonder gets visitors nose-to-petal with thousands of favorite spring flowers. Gaze upon nature’s most beautiful spring blooms, bursting with color and fragrance, in the glasshouse or buy a bottle of perfume at the Palm Court. Visit the Serpentine Room for a sensory spa experience or admire the discipline of the South Conservatory’s sharply manicured hedges, the fountain, and the citrus trees. The Spring Flower Show runs until April 8th; click here for more information.
To take full advantage of the tropical exhibits this spring, you may want to grab some girlfriends for a bed and breakfast stay to attend one of Phipps’s Party in the Tropics late-night socials. The Tropical Forest Conservatory transforms into one of Steel City’s most unique nightlife hotspots. Taste unique cocktails and seasonal beer while you dance to the beats of the live DJ amidst lush greenery, rushing waterfalls, and everything else you can only find in paradise. The Party in the Tropics upcoming dates are Friday, April 13 and Friday, May 4 from 4-11PM. Click here for more information.
