Frost, Snow, and the PA Farm Show

The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest agricultural event in the nation, and it’s one of the capitol area’s wintertime favorites. Besides the judged food competitions, rodeos, wine tasting, and Dairymen’s milkshakes, the PA Farm Show is an important venue for knowledge-sharing in our state’s most profitable industry. Farmers have an opportunity to show off what they do the best, learn about and shop for the latest farming equipment, as well as have a little fun. Check out some of this year’s new attractions, events, and exhibits and don’t forget to visit this year’s thousand-pound butter sculpture.

Organic Food: Looks like another industry in Pennsylvania is on the rise. PA is now the second-highest producer of organics in the country, meaning more and more of our food will be natural, farm-to-table produce. Visit the Farm Show to find some of the best-tasting organics in the region.

Cider Competition: One of the new judged competitions of the year is the hard cider competition. With a rapidly rising consumer demand, twenty-six of PA’s cider producers entered in the seven-category competition. Winners will be announced Saturday, January 6th and displayed during the show.

Meatball Showdown: The Meatball Showdown pits junior chefs against one another to find out who can make the best meatball the fastest.

STEM: Discover the cutting-edge tools and technology that allows our farmers to make the most out of our nitrate-rich soil, give us better and healthier animals, and overcome weather and climate challenges. Listen to bunny heartbeats, learn about seed science, and much more at the PA Department of Agriculture booth in the Main Hall.

Calving Corner: Everyone knows more animals always walk out of the Farm Show than walked in. The brand-new animal care center allows visitors to witness the miracle of birth and learn from veterinarians at work in the care and stewardship of farm animals.

The Pennsylvania Farm Show is held Saturday, January 6th-13th at the Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg. Visit a day early for free parking and food court only admission, 12-9PM on Friday, January 5th. Parking costs $15.00 during regular show hours. Take advantage of January’s Cabin Fever specials when seeking lodging at one of our many quality-assured and certified bed & breakfasts; stay one night and get the second night FREE or 50% off. Visit the PA Farm Show website for a schedule of activities and hours.
